THE COMBINATION OF OTAGO HOME EXERCISE PROGRAMME WITH HATHA YOGA MAXIMIZES DYNAMIC BALANCE AND REDUCES ANXIETY IN THE ELDERLY

Purpose: The elderly experience an initial process of physiological changes which slowly diminishes the tissue's ability to repair itself. This causes balance and anxiety disorders, efforts to improve balance and control anxiety can be done by providing a combination training program that can improve balance while reducing anxiety. The aim of the research was to find out whether the combination of otago home exercise program with hatha yoga can maximize dynamic balance and reduce anxiety in the elderly.
Results: The results of the balance value of Group 2 p> 0.001 with an average difference and percentage increase of 5.50 ± 0.650 (12.58%) for anxiety obtained results of p> 0.001 with an average difference and percentage decrease of 2.86 ± 0.535 (31, 53%). In the balance group 1, the result was p> 0.001 with an average difference and percentage increase of 4.50 ± 0.519 (10.51%) for anxiety, the result was p> 0.001 with an average difference and percentage decrease of 1.85 ± 0.363 (20.08% ).
Methods: This study was an experimental study, with a pretest and posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of 28 elderly who were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Divided into Group 1 given hatha yoga, Group 2 was given a combination of OHEP with hatha yoga. Training for 6 weeks with a frequency of 3 times a week. Measurement of balance with the berg balance scale, and measurement of anxiety with the Hamilton anxiety rating scale.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that the combination of otago home exercise program with hatha yoga maximizes the increase in dynamic balance and reduces anxiety than hatha yoga alone.
