Relationship between isometric performance of quadriceps muscle and Q angle knee

The Q Angle is an important factor in assessing the knee joint and its mechanical condition, particularly for students who participate in physical activities. It indicates normal alignment and biomechanical function in the lower extremities, especially when walking. Additionally, it provides important information on the performance of the quadriceps muscles in the lower extremities. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the isometric performance of the quadriceps muscle and the Q Angle of the knee. A correlational research with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on students in the Poltekees environment of the Ministry of Health Jakarta III. Sampling was carried out using the random sampling method, with specific criteria. Q Angle measurements were taken using a goniometer and Surface Electromyography was used as a tool for muscle performance. Statistical tests were conducted using the SPSS program on the correlation between Q Angle and isometric contraction of VMO, RF, and VLO. The results showed that the p-values for VMO, RF, and VLO were 0.161, 0.576, and 0.310, respectively, indicating no significant correlation between Q Angle and the Quadriceps Muscle. In conclusion, this study found no correlation between Q Angle and the isometric performance of the quadriceps muscle.
